Our Travel Agenda

We have gotten new information on our upcoming travels.  This is what we know so far:

Thursday, March 31st: We will fly to Philadelphia.  At 6 pm that evening we register for the “staging” event at our hotel.

Friday:  We spend the day in meetings with the others in our group.  There are about 40 of us traveling to Botswana and training together.

Saturday:  We rise early in the morning and catch a 3 am bus to JFK airport in New York.  We fly to Johannesburg, South Africa (a 15 hour flight) arriving Sunday morning.

Sunday:  We catch a short flight up to Gaborone, Botswana where we check in at a hotel, our home for four days.

Monday – Wednesday:  We start our training.  Initially we will be learning “survival” Setswana so that we will be able to communicate with our host family.  We also learn what it will be like living in their home and what they will expect from us.

Thursday, April 7th:  We take a bus to Kanye, about 60 miles west of Gaborone.  Kanye is where we will be taking all of our training.  We will get there in time for a lunch ceremony in which we will be paired up with our host family.  We will be living with this host family for the next 10 – 12 weeks, until we graduate from Pre-Service Training and are sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers.

They make every effort to keep married couples together in the same home, but there is a small chance Tish and I could be separated (cross your fingers).
